Writer's Block: Philanthropy

Do you volunteer your time or donate money to any charitable organizations? Which ones, and why?
I tend to send out charitable contributions if there is any money left over after doing the bills and making sure there is money for groceries/gasoline. It isn't much... usually $20 to this charity, or $10 to that one. My choice of charities really comes down to whoever has mailed me a plea during the past two weeks (I'm payed bi-weekly). I don't have a "committed" charity; I just try to spread around what I can when I have it. I will say though, that I give special preference for any organizations who are working to provide support for our returning troops. I also always try to make sure that an police organizations get some money, whether its for families of fallen officers in the line of duty, or our Sherrif's educational fund. I have given money to cancer research, animal welfare, Appalacian schools, and every year - no matter how tight things are, the U.S. Marine's Toys for Tots program gets a check.

I always consider it sowing a seed... what goes around comes around, and you never know when your going to have to contact a support organization for help. It just seems like a good personal policy to spread some good will out there in the universe, ya know?
