Welcome back to another comic edition of "Best Of / Worst Of Character Moments" where once again, we'll be taking a look at our favorite characters in the Buffyverse. This time out we'll be judging our characters of BTVS, Season 10, Issue 03.
I do have one caveat before we dig in: Dracula is a main player in this one, but I'm not going to list him as a focus character, because frankly he isn't and can never really be a protaganist. As much as this thingie with Xander is interesting and offbeat, he's still not somebody I'd ever trust as a "good guy", and I really try to leave the focus characters' slots for the people we want to root for. Dracula doesn't cut it, despite how humorous he can be when he's not being imperious and scary. Of course, he can still get a kudo or demerit like everyone else.
That makes our focus characters: Dawn, Xander, Buffy, Spike, Willow, Rupert, and Andrew.
All of our Home Team. Yay!
Our Characters Are Wonderful People!
Dawn: No kudo.
Xan: Nothing for Xander.
Buffy: Not impressed with Buffy.
Spike: Nope, nothing awesome from Spike.
Wills: I really liked Wills being ready for the misting vampires with misted holy water. Half-KUDO for clever.
Rupert: Giles gets a Half-KUDO for being the only one ready for any treachery from Dracula. Not enough, because the Lord of the Vampires is pretty damned skilled and powerful, but at least he wasn't lost in the charm of the vampire, like everyone else.
Andy: Nada for Andrew, again.
I'm giving Dracula the Half-KUDO for figuring out the actual importance of the Vampyr Book in the New Magic and how it's rules are determined.
Our Characters Are Idiots!
Dawn- A share of a group demerit goes to Dawnie.
Xander- Xander doesn't earn a demerit.
Buffy- Here's your share of a group demerit, Buff.
Spike- I'm kinda more disappointed in Spike not being more on the ball against Dracula, but I'm only going to give his a share of the group demerit.
Willow- You too, Wills. A share of the group fail.
Rupert- Giles is pushing it with his snottiness, but he skips by without a demerit.
Andrew- Damn it, Andy. You are so annoying sometimes. Half-DEMERIT for your cloying obsequiousness toward Drac.
I must give all of our Scooby Gang a Group DEMERIT, minus Andrew who gets his own, and minus Giles who seems to be the only one who wasn't charmed by Dracula into forgetting his basic nature, and finally minus Xander but only because I can't be sure that his semi-thrall wasn't interfering even when Drac wasn't pushing the issue.
As much as I want to hand Dracula a demerit for disappointing me so, I know I can't. The fault was mine for allowing myself to be as charmed as the gang by his slashy-humor and funny asides. I guess that earns me a Half-DEMERIT.
