Things have been on the stressful side lately. For the 4th, we had Tom's ex-wife, her new boyfriend, her two kids, his son and Tom's daughter over - yee-hah!
The out of towners (all but Tom's daughter) were with us for a week and it was actually a good visit. The kids were behaved for the most part, we got to leave them behind when we went to Bay City for the fireworks and I like Russ (the new boyfriend).
But all hasn't been rosy. I don't know the whole story, but Tom's daughter got into a knock-down drag out with her mother about I don't even know - but she was banned from the house until she called a few days later and apologized. She was supposed to go to Bay City with us, but refused to.
Then, we were supposed to have a new front door (the storm door) replaced, but the guy that was going to help us put it on didn't. It's still sitting in the living room in the box (where its been for two weeks), but the guy down the street is supposed to come over today while I'm at work and help Tom out with it.
I also desperately needed a partial roof replacement, and THANK YOU LORD, I was able to get a small loan to cover it.
But - at work, the things I've been dreading since the economic meltdown has come to pass. The number one client of our department (my boss tells me their contract provided 70% of our budget) has cancelled the contract they just signed a few months ago. They're moving their equipment by mid-August to their local site to make their IT in-house... but rumor has it, it's really to give a job to the slacker-son of the honcho there.
This is devastating to our department, and my prospects for staying employed.
This could not be more horrifying if she'd come in and plunged a knife in me. Unless there is a miracle, I don't see how my position will last through Christmas - it's that bad (just take a look at our stock price, ANLY, on any financial site to see how on the edge the company as a whole is skating). I'm am just scared shitless about what the hell I'm going to do in the near future - Michigan's job prospects are NOT promising and I'm sitting here with no certifications and no degrees. I never needed 'em.
Of course, we have a MSCE working as an Operator, so that wouldn't help anyway. She's said that unless you have ten years experience along with the Cert, you can forget about it.
So - I'm in Hell. Anyone want to adopt two gay men in their 40's? (He says with a weak and not so amused smile)
That's why I haven't been posting anything in the last few days - I've just been trying to absorb the shock and praying a lot - I'm trying to just give it to the Universe to work it out, but to say this is a stressful moment in time would be an understatement.
I'm still working on Spanderverse - sort of - I've got 5 chapters written and I know where I'm going - mostly.
There will be a Buffy and Angel review posted on Friday for Issue #5 of each. And, I might possibly get the WATCHERS review done on Saturday or Sunday for the first episode of S2.
I was gonna do this long post about the whole Palin-flap... I was gonna go back and put in links to my other posts where I expressed opinions about her... I was gonna fill this post with linkages to all the pundit-sites who have been obsessed with her (either praising or slamming her - middle of the road opinion seems rare when it comes to Ms. Palin).
But, I just don't have the heart for it. Because, it can all be summarized in just a few sentences:
"The Left": Sarah is bizarre and her quitting the governorship points to the fact that she's a wack-a-doo and Conservatives are utterly brain-dead for ever having supported her ever... forever.
"The Right": Poor, Sarah... victim of Liberal MSM even then she's the most brilliant politician who ever brilliant-ed onto the political scene. She'll be back and she'll be President because she's so utterly adored... oh yeah, and Barack is still an evil Socialist who is destroying our country.
My view: Sarah Palin had no business being recruited to run on the ticket last year. She was unqualified for national matters and she didn't have enough time in order to get briefed and brought up to speed. She was ill-used by McCain's team to throw red meat to the more psychotic Arch-Conservatives - the sort who will happily cut their own noses off if Limblow or O'Blowhard told them to. She was undercut by not being allowed (until far too late after the writing was on the wall for the GOP ticket) to just point out what she'd accomplished in Alaska and what she'd like to do in Washington. Instead, she was made to repeat the bulletin points - even if they made no sense - because her job was really to be the cheerleader for the Social Conservative base - not to actually run as VP.
I still would not vote for her on the Democrat's worst day. I don't agree with her social politics. I don't think she has the temperament to handle the stresses that leading the free world puts on a person. I think she really is the "female Bush" when it comes to gathering and analyzing information or being intellectually rigorous in understanding others' points of view, even if she doesn't agree.
But, I am disturbed and disgusted by much of what is being said about her. Things regarding Trig, things regarding that she's just a bumpkin'-idiot (which isn't true, obviously, and it different then simply not being interested in others' opposing opinions), that she's a borderline cuckoo-nutso, and other just plain mean-spirited things.
On the other hand, some of the right's arguments are also so "out-there" as to be pathological in their bullshittedness... that liberals "conspired" to trash Palin "cause they're so afraid of her". That they hate Palin because, specifically, she didn't abort Trig (which is so hateful, I can't believe they actually believe that and aren't just spewing toxic gas), that she doesn't need to read because she has "real smarts... like normal, average people".
Both sides seemed to have largely turned into raving sociopaths when it comes to the subject of former Governor Palin. I don't particularly like Sarah and I wouldn't vote for her to go to the WH if she was the only name on the ballot, but the pundit/blogging spitting on her (not least by the LOSERS who ran McCain's schizophrenic and disfunctional campaign) has been unacceptably disgusting. But, that in no way, means that the Neo-Con and other Right Wing bloggers should be attributing facts to Palin's treatment which aren't so (no one really "hated" her online until she started talking about Obama's "disloyalty" and "paling around with terrorists" - i.e. parroting the Far Right talking points. They should also stop trying to pretend that someone who hasn't shown any interest in International Affairs could in any way be an effective Vice President, just a heartbeat away from the Big Chair... it's ridiculous.
We don't want a "real American" in the WH if its a rube, like (Not) Joe the (Not Actually A) Plumber. We want someone who's been well educated and show the ability to analyze and react with calm assurance to crisis. Saying that Sarah showed these traits, or that she doesn't need these traits is assinine.
So - that's all I want to say about Palin, except good luck to her in whatever she chooses to do next, so long as she stays away from the White House.
