Best Of / Worst Of Character Moments: X-Files
.

And we're cruising right along with our next entry, in our "Best Of / Worst Of Character Moments" with The X-Files' "Fallen Angel".

The sweet story of a poor, lost alien who just wants to find a way home... while burning up a bunch of people and not using his ability to be invisible to any good use. Dumbass.

Our focus characters are: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, and Max Fenig.

Our Characters - They're A Wonder!

Fox: Mulder's ability to get around a military quarantine is AMAZING. It's so amazing as to be ridiculous, but it earns him a KUDO.

Dana: Agent Scully doesn't earn a kudo.

Max: Max is clever and industrious but he doesn't earn a kudo.

I'm going to hand Deep Throat a Half-KUDO for putting Mulder on the track of possibly thwarting the Conspiracy of Silence.

I'm also giving Doctor Oppenheim a KUDO for resisting the threatening pressure of the military to help Fox and Dana and to insist that Dana will stay to help them with burn victims, or none of Colonel Henderson's men will be treated at all.

Our Characters - They're Dopes!

Fox- Mulder gets a Half-DEMERIT for putting the X-Files' existence at risk by misappropriating FBI funds to go on a personal mission. We're not supposed to see it that way of course, but that is what he was doing.

Dana- No demerit for Dana.

Max- I'm not going to demerit Max.

I've got to give a DEMERIT to Everyone In The Conspiracy. The explanations hiding what is happening in Wisconsin are so horribly implausible and complicated for no real reason, that it's actually more of a hindrance than a help, I'd think. Everyone seems relatively stupid in this episode.

Commander Henderson is a weird case. I want to give him a demerit for not holding Fox and Max until after the clean up operation is over, because that seems like something that would be extremely obvious to do. But, maybe he didn't because he's actually secretly working against the Conspiracy of Silence. I personally think it's just bad writing, but I'm willing to extend him the benefit of the doubt and withhold the demerit.

I'm handing our Alien Crash Victim a DEMERIT for not using his invisibility to stay out of the way and quiet until his retrieval team arrives. This stupid thing seems to go out of its way to leave traces everywhere leading right to it, including attacking the local, sentient species.
